MACHINE HEAD's ROBB FLYNN Fires Back At Critics Over 'Do Or Die' Song

October 14, 2019

MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn has fired back at critics of the band's new song "Do Or Die".

Ever since "Do Or Die" was released last Friday, there have been numerous complaints on social media about the track's chorus, which features the line "Die, Motherfucker, Die", with some fans pointing out its similarity to DOPE's 2001 song "Die MF Die". In addition, a number of people have slammed the song's lyrics as juvenile and cringeworthy, featuring such lines as "there's not a metal band I ain't influenced" and "we're not CHIMAIRA or STRAPPING YOUNG LAD," apparently aimed at MACHINE HEAD's detractors, in particular those who have disapproved of the band's last album, 2018's "Catharsis".

Earlier today, Flynn — who is currently on the road in Europe as part of MACHINE HEAD's "Burn My Eyes" 25th-anniversary tour — took to his Instagram to share a 1995 video of him saying "c'mon, motherfucker, c'mon" to the crowd at a show in The Netherlands, and to call out the "sausage gobblers" and "Internet twatholes" who have been critical of "Do Or Die"'s lyrics.

Flynn wrote: "To all the bitchass internet troll motherfuckers who keep whining and menstrating about how 'Do Or Die' has lyrics from the band DOPE. Here's a little fucking reminder for your moronic nu-metal-brain's, since 1993 in our song 'fuck at all' I've been saying 'c'mon motherfucker c'mon' in the middle break down. Here's video of me in 1995 saying it at Dynamo! It was a good seven years before Dopes 2001's 'Die MF Die' came out you fuckin sausage gobblers!⠀

"DUH!!⠀

"Not to mention that any fucking band on the planet saying '______ motherfucker ______' in any combination (and that goes for COAL CHAMBER, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, DOPE, and yes, MACHINE HEAD) are all jacking it from 1984's hip hop classic 'The Roof Is On Fire' by Rock Master Scott & The Dynamic Three. Know your fucking musical history fuckboi's!!⠀

"And if I hear one more fucking internet twathole moaning about 'cringe worthy lyrics' while they sit in front of their computers stroking their little fucking boners to the lyrical genius of fucking BABYMETAL, eat a bowl of cock! Because the second the PANTERA's 'walk' comes on, with such lyrical Edgar Allan Poe-esque masterpiece is like 'run your mouth when I'm not around it's easy to achieve' and 'walk on home boy' Or LAMB OF GOD's 'this is a motherfucking invitation' these same fucking brain-donors run right out to the dance floor and start headbanging!⠀And rightly so!!

"P.S. Who the fuck listens to DOPE!!??"

MACHINE HEAD's Marius Milinski-directed music video for "Do Or Die" can be seen below. The track is available now on all digital platforms via Imperium Recordings/Nuclear Blast.

"Do Or Die" was produced by Flynn and Zack Ohren (FALLUJAH, ALL SHALL PERISH) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California. It was mixed by Russ Russell (AT THE GATES, NAPLAM DEATH, SIKTH) at Parlour Studios in the United Kingdom. The mastering was handled by Gene Grimaldi at Oasis Mastering in Burbank, California.

"Do Or Die" was recorded last December by Flynn, bassist Jared MacEachern and WARBRINGER drummer Carlos Cruz.

Cruz stepped in to play on "Do Or Die" following the departure of MACHINE HEAD's longtime drummer Dave McClain.
